How To Keep Your Coffee Filters From Collapsing

There is nothing worse than taking a big sip of your coffee just to find out there is now coffee grounds in your mouth.  Yuk!  This is how I stop it from happening.  This idea also makes it easier for you to separate the filters when you are preparing to make your coffee.  I got this idea from my sister.  Its real simple.  Find some kind of bowl that some or all your filters will barely fit into snugly.  If the filters are squeezed into the bowl too tightly it will be harder to separate the filters.  What you are trying to do is keep the walls of the filter from going flat.  Keep in mind you must do this as soon as you open your filter package.  If the filters have already been allowed to go flat its too late.  What you want to do is keep the walls of the filter exactly as you get them out of the package.  So, when you grab the filter to put in your coffee maker, you want to be somewhat gentle so as to preserve those walls.  It works for my sister and I am sure it will work for you too.

There is also one other option to prevent your filters from collapsing. You can simply look for filters that have a shorter wall height. The shorter the wall height of the filter the stronger that wall is. This works especially well if you are using a 12 cup coffee maker but only making 6 cups of coffee. The problem with a shorter wall filter is that the coffee grounds fill it up sooner so it is harder to not spill grounds when throwing them away. You simply have to be a little more careful when grabbing the used filter and grounds from the coffee basket. You can usually find the smaller wall filters at discount places like Wallmart, .99 cant stores and the dollar stores.

    1. Hi Mark. Thanks for your comment. I just added another idea for the coffee filters. Use filters with shorter walls. It works great!
