Defunding the police is just plain naïve and stupid. Who are you going to call when a crime is being committed, Ghost Busters? Defunding the police would be the same as defunding the military because they had collateral damage during an air strike? Yes racist police and collateral damage in the military are disturbing realities. However, neither is any reason to eliminate the police or the military. We need them! We can only continue to improve the quality of their performance. In the case of police racism, national attitude about racism needs to be adjusted in a positive way. The most obvious way to do this is vote out those that support racism. Another way of reducing racism in the police departments is reform. Any reforms would have to include better management and training. There has to be universal red flag responses when a police officer exhibits racial bias. These universal responses have to be enforced at the Federal level. The firing, arrest and prosecution of all offenders must happen immediately and more often. Only then will there be the needed attitude adjustments. A few bad apples can’t make a bushel bad if they are disposed of quickly and permanently!
Reform and improve the police, yes. Defund the police, no!
