Maria Magdalena auctioned off her Silver Medal from the Olympics to help out an 8 month old child finance her heart surgery. I know what everyone is thinking. Would she have done it if it was a gold medal instead of a silver. I think so. The fact that she did it at all, suggests she was more worried about that child than giving up her medal. Knowing she won the medal is all she really needed. That knowledge is something that will encourage her for the rest of her life. Medal’s are nice but not of much value. In hard currency, silver medals are probably worth around 500.00 American. That of course depends on the silver market at the time of appraisal. Using the medal to help finance the child’s operation makes it priceless. Its interesting that her name is so close to that of Saint Mary Magdalene.
